4 Benefits of Handwriting
Putting Your Thoughts on Paper With Your Handwriting
Writing became my therapy when my son was sick. I would find a quiet place and write whatever came to my mind. It was decades ago and I am still writing. Since that difficult time, I have received peace and strength through putting my sentiments down on paper. I have analyzed why writing by hand is therapeutic. Here are the 4 reasons I think it is important for everyone to hand write their thoughts.
1. Handwriting Helps Process Your Emotions
Handwriting brings me clearer reflections that enable me to express myself better. This self-reflection brings more concise thoughts and a release of inner peace. My ideas become fluid and flow onto the paper. It is also a stress release mechanism.
2. Handwriting by Hand Stimulates the Brain
The art of handwriting was considered an art to be mastered many years ago. I was fortunate to have learned cursive writing in grammar school. In our family my parents and grandparents would comment of the quality of our handwriting. The art of handwriting has been proven to help stimulate specific parts of the brain in Psychology Today. Journaling is used my many as another way to bring self-awareness.
3. Handwriting Encourages Deeper Thinking
I think more precisely when I hand write. This mindful writing allows me to express myself in various ways with a rhythm to my writing and thoughts. My mind wanders gathering my conscious and my introspection become deeper. This occurred when I wrote my first book, Day By Day.
4. Handwriting Helps You Discover Your Inner-Self
People are afraid to write down their thoughts, yet you can discover more about your inner-self by writing, especially by handwriting. It brings relaxation to your mind and reflections.
